4 Month Check-up

Today the boys had their 4 month check-up and shots.
I planned ahead this time and gave them some Tylenol so that it might soften the shots a bit. Both are doing well and the Dr has no concerns for them; and he gave us the go-ahead to begin giving them an antihistamine when necessary since they stuff up about 8 hours behind me needing to take an antihistamine. In addition to posting their milestones, I also want to note some things about the boys at this point.

Luke - 12lbs, 12oz; 23 3/4" long - 75% in all growth areas
To date, he has actually been the more laid back of the two. In most cases, when we put him in the crib to nap he fusses for a short time and goes to sleep. He even demonstrated it today when he received his shots. Yes, he cried; but within 2 minutes he had calmed down. His favorite playtime is under the gym on his back batting at his seahorse toy that hangs down. He has turned over in his crib when he gets really upset. He hasn't rolled over in a calm situation yet, though. At night he tends to 'make laps' around the crib. I will check on him one time and he is on one side and the next time he is on a totally different side of the bed. His overall disposition is very sweet; just tonight I was able to get him to carry on a 'conversation' (baby coos) with me for 15 minutes. He smiles in response to people talking to him. He also enjoys standing up on a lap, but he isn't as crazy about standing up in the bouncer by himself yet. I expect him to be the first one to crawl.

Jacob - 13lbs, 6oz; 24 1/4" long - 85% on weight, 90% on height
He is my high maintenance boy; he has the loudest most persistent cry and doesn't give up without a long fight. Poor guy, he cried almost the entire appointment because of the physical and shots. On a positive note, he was the first one to respond with a smile to us and to baby talk. His favorite playtime is the stand-up bouncer that we have added a pillow to for height. I expect him to be the first to walk. When he wakes up from his nap he just lights up with the biggest smile on the planet.

  • We gave the boys their first taste of whole food (cereal and green beans) at about 3 1/2 months, but it was not a regular occurrence. Yesterday (3/21), we started them on a regular schedule of whole foods. This week we are doing sweet peas.
  • This week we have also started reading Dr Seuss to them and they are seeming to enjoy it.
  • They are also finally able to fit into the blanket sleepers Gram got them.
  • They are wearing 6-9 month clothes primarily because of their length.
  • Both are sitting up with support and have been for a couple of weeks.
  • They are starting to reach for stationary toys and the food bowl that I feed them from.
